MUAHAHAHA~!
Due to a nasty case of an art-block (not really I'm just being lazy)I decided (for the 3rd time in my life) to take on the 100 Themes Challenge.
The last two I've began with the same spirit I do now but never went on
to finish it. I think this is because of my fleeting fancy for things, & that
was drawing fanart for animu. Now, I think I moved on to a different
liking for things. Notice how I didn't say upgrade? Animu is still a great
style and fun to draw. It can also be very easy as well but it's still
a form of art no matter how you look at it. But it just doesn't appeal to
me anymore, I've fallen in love with a more cartoony and/or western
approach to drawing. Hmmm, who to blaaameee~ :I
Anyway, many of you (I'm probably gonna guess there is like one or two
of you reading this journal, but I digress) have noticed a reoccurring theme
in my drawings. No? Really? Is my flair really going down that bad?! T_T
The theme I've been going with lately are sepia-toned or warm hues with
the fashion and romanticism of the 20s-40s. I've love vintaged anything
since I could remember. Which is strange to hear coming from an Aquarian,
we do love our futuristic stuff and technology. But we are also curious individuals.
Speaking of vintage, I recently discovered Ms. Tracy J. Butler's Lackadaisy
(if ya haven't heard of it I suggest you google it, NAOOO!!) webcomic and
just fell in love. Her drawings are so luscious and lively. The plot & dialog
are just spot on. I usually stray away from human-like cats or "furry" like
it's some bad food. But the facial expressions and fancy zoot suits, I couldn't
resist. Even if she doesn't know I exist, she definitely has inspired me more
than she'll ever know. Amazing feats what artists can do, huh? Ahhh~ :)
So, back to the 100 themes. I've decided (thanks to Lackadaisy) to draw each
theme using scenarios and expressions as the main subject. Rather than the
quality of the drawing itself, I want to portray emotion without getting caught
up in the detail. I want to exercise knowledge of body language and atmosphere.
Be it comical, tragedy or dramatic, maybe put in some action in there too!
I ordered Baccano the complete series DVD set a few days ago and awaiting
patiently for it's delivery. I do love the anime so much. One of the few I'd actually
spend some dollars on. Hell, I even want to buy the artbook, but it's effing $60.
BUT I'LL BUY IT. SOMEDAY. YOU'LL SEE. Despite not liking animu style
anymore, I do love Ms. Katsumi Enami's style of drawing. She draws facial
expressions more lively than you'd see on animu without being comical or exaggerated.
Her rendition of things are addicting and her way of painting is sleek. ♥♥
Actually I'm just being biased, I only like her drawings when it's Baccano. :3
Hehe, okay 'nuff chitchat. I'll get to drawing nao~ See ya!
